One Beautiful Way To Organize Your Space

Good Morning! Welcome back! I'm so glad you found your way here.
Do you ever do something, for yourself, around your house, that you think nothing of, only to hear all your Friends & Family exclaim how much they love it and never would have thought of that? This is one of those kind a projects. I have a pet peeve. Well, truth be told, I have many, but I'm only telling you about one today!  I can NOT stand those big old plastic mugs (you know the ones) some company gave it to you free and it probably has their logo on it, and it's insulated and blah, blah, blah. That, inevitably, after finding no other use or it, becomes the pen and pencil holder!  I HATE them! I had one. If not that mug, then it's that tray or drawer, full of pens and everytime you go to grab one, the one you picked doesn't work anymore! Yep, that right there, will drive me over the brink!

So, last summer, when I got my new desk, and my Beautiful ruffled curtains, do you remember them? (I was oh so excited about my New Ruffled Curtains, I still love them!) BUT,  I simply was not going to let that ugly pen mug sit on
my beautiful new desk.

So the more Elegant-styled organization, started! First by throwing out that plastic mug and then off to make myself a cuter, more elegant option, for on my desk, where I spend numerous hours! Let's face it, if you're at your desk for many hours, ugly things will not inspire you! I, usually, would not bother with showing you the brand of the can I used (and no, I am not compensated by Hunts) But, it just so happens that this can is the not only the perfect height, but also has a white coating on the inside of the can, so as to protect from rust, as well as, removing the sound of placing something in a tin can! Who knew?  So, for my money, this can works best!
Now that we have established the right container, what to do with it! Well, I think most of us have a few sheets of our favorite scrapbook paper hanging around the house, at least! But, if that's not the case for you, what a wonderful excuse to pop over to Michael's or Hobby Lobby!

Because my new, elegant, pen holder was already made when I was encourage to share this with you, I used this pretty little paper to show you what I did.(12 cents!) It couldn't be easier!

Step 1 ~ Clean your can and remove it's label.
Step 2~Grab your paper , scissors, glue gun or tape and have a seat.
Step 3~Cut your paper to overlap by about an inch, when rolling the paper around it.
Step 4~Turn under the excess, neatly. This will be your beautiful seem that sits in the back!
Step 5~ Glue gun or double-stick tape the folded over section, so your can is beautifully covered with your favorite paper.

Like this!

Final step, make 3 or 4 cuts in your excess paper at the top of the can ( I usually leave  about an inch and a half) then fold it down inside, giving a nice finished, and not dangerous, top to it.

I think I might know what you're thinking to yourself, right about now! Okay, she wrapped a can.  Nice.  But, is that it?!  Well, no, it didn't end there! Once I placed my pens, pencil and scissors in said can, I was not pleased! Don't get me wrong....still leap and bounds better than the "Plastic Mug"

Do any of you remember the Paper Flower Tutorial I did, oh, a little while ago?  I am still making those flowers for events at my church friends and family all the time! So, I grabbed some pretty creamy off white tissue and made an elegant paper flower.  Then I wrapped the bottom (pipe cleaner) around the tallest pencil I had in my can and place it in the center! And Voila! You end up with something a lot like this!
By the way, this is a great time to grab all those pens and a pad of paper & sift though the ones that, actually, work and discard the rest. I, also, love to put my pens tip down, so you don't have to wait for the ink to get back to the tip! It is such a Joy now to sit at my beautiful desk and see no trace of them. I love when someone is over and needs to borrow a pen,  I simply pinch the top of my paper flower and offer them their pick!
My little beauty lives right here, now, and I enjoy it everyday.
I hope you enjoyed this little trick, and I pray that it might inspire you to make your space a little more pretty, less confused. It so much fun to find the joy in simple pleasures, like this, that can  brighten your space for a long while to come.
Many Blessings to you all!
~Theresa.

  1. Look at YOU...smart girl! Now I have a couple of ideas you inspired: 1. Why don't you do a youtube video sharing this? 2. Why not offer a class at your church teaching this...develop it with age appropriate materials?

There's just no stopping us when we get those creative juices going...good job lady!
